Missing Achievements #190885

🏷️ Discussion TypeQuestion 💬 Feature/Topic AreaProfile BodyEarlier today, at around 12 - 1:00, I checked my profile to see that I received 2 new achievements, the Heart on your Sleave badge, and Open Sourcerer. Then, I checked now, and those two were gone. Can anyone explain? |

It's still in the testing phase; they may have done a soft launch and later removed it. |

What you experienced is a known quirk with GitHub's achievement system. The Heart on your Sleeve and Open Sourcerer badges are part of a set of achievements still in an experimental state, meaning they can appear and disappear from profiles without warning as GitHub adjusts the rollout behind the scenes. There is currently no official documentation on how these badges are earned or what the specific criteria are, which adds to the confusion when they surface briefly and then vanish. Keep contributing, and the badges should find their way back once the system is more formally established. |

This sounds like a feature that may still be in a testing or experimental rollout, so achievements can appear temporarily and then disappear again if theyre not fully launched for all users yet. It may also be a caching/sync issue, so I’d suggest refreshing the page, logging out and back in and checking again after a bit. If the achievements keep coming and going, it would be useful to share the profile URL and timestamps with the site team so they can confirm whether this is expected behavior or a bug |

This can happen because GitHub achievements are sometimes recalculated or temporarily shown due to a bug or delay in GitHub’s system. Achievements like Heart On Your Sleeve and Open Sourcerer are awarded based on specific activity conditions. If GitHub later re-checks the activity and determines that the requirements were not actually met (for example a reaction was removed, an interaction was deleted, or a contribution didn’t qualify), the achievement can disappear from the profile. Another possibility is that GitHub briefly showed the achievements due to a caching or sync issue and then removed them after the system refreshed. In most cases this is normal behavior and not something you did wrong. If the activity truly qualifies, the achievements may appear again after GitHub processes the data. |

Thanks for reporting this, @ajm19826! We’re aware that some users experienced issues with GitHub profile Achievements not loading or appearing correctly. This was part of a temporary issue that has now been resolved. As part of that issue, the Heart On Your Sleeve and Open Sourcerer achievements were also temporarily re-enabled in error. Those achievements were part of an experimental rollout and were not meant to be broadly available, so they were removed again once the mistake was identified. You should now be able to view your achievements as expected. If you’re still seeing anything missing or not loading properly, feel free to let us know here. Thanks again for your patience and understanding! |
