I think your issue might have the same cause as mine: #50162
Try @DanielRosenwasser's suggestion to install the nightly build extension from here: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ms-vscode.vscode-typescript-next and let us know in case it fixes your problem.

Yes, I think #49986 is actually closer, but my advice is the same - give the nightly version a shot since I think this issue has been fixed by #50042!

I've been working with the latest version since then and the issue didn't happen anymore.
