Student linked to wrong person in GitHub Classroom list and can not go back to repick after accepting assignment

Hi everyone,

We have a student who linked to the wrong user and trying to work out how to remove link so they can start the process again.
Steps:

1. From our VLE(moodle) students clicks on the page which takes then to GitHub Classroom i.e. classroom.github.com/assignment-invitations/....
2. Student asked to sign into GitHub
3. Join the classroom page (classroom.github.com/assignment-invitations/...) is dispalyed "To join the GitHub Classroom for this course, please select yourself from the list below to associate your GitHub account with your school’s identifier (i.e., your name, ID, or email)."
4. This is when the error was made and the student picked wrong name (discovered after everything)
5. The Accept the assignment page is displayed "Once you accept this assignment, you will be granted access to the msc-project-files-GitHubAccountName repository in the organization on GitHub.". Press "Accept this assignment"
6. A repository is created

Even if the student or I (Github organization admin) delete the repository it does not seem possible to allow the student to go back to "(step 3) Select your name from the list". If they start the process from the beginning (step1) GitHib Classroom still knows the user has linked to an account and displays "You accepted the assignment, MSc Project Source Code Files but something went wrong. We have not received any updates for this assignment. You may want to reaccept the assignment."

Any suggestions how to remove the GitHub Classroom link so the student can start from al over again.

No answer yet, but link the following to this "Students can easily link to wrong identifier, can't unlink #2542" which seems to the same problem back in 2022.

I was just preemptively looking for a way to remedy this. Can you not kick an individual student out of your entire classroom?

I don't want to unlink or remove their identifier in my student roster, I want to remove their github account from all my org's classrooms.

Given that github-education-resources/classroom#2542 is read-only... I'd like to bump this issue hoping for a fix someday
